Chicago is also famous for a somewhat peculiar annual event: dyeing the Chicago River green. The tradition started in 1962, when city pollution-control workers used dyes to trace illegal sewage discharges and realized that the green dye might provide a unique way to celebrate the holiday. That year, they released 100 pounds of green vegetable dye into the river—enough to keep it green for a week!
Today, in order to minimize environmental damage, only forty pounds of dye are used, making the river green for only several hours.

Dance in which the toes and heels rapidly tap the floor to emphasize the rhythm of the accompanying music. This type of dance used to be performed in clogs, but now light shoes are worn, which have metal plates (known as taps) on the toes and the heels.

In an eagle grip, a gymnasts hands are turned 180 degrees outward from a regular over grip. The hands and thumbs are turned out in the grip. This position requires a high degree of shoulder flexibility to swing comfortably and maintain a firm grip during the swing. Also called an L Grip.

DEATH DROP!

A death drop (formally known as a flying open Axel sit spin) is a flying spin performed by jumping up with a forward Axel jump takeoff, kicking the same takeoff leg backwards, and landing in a back sit position. One of the major differences between a death drop and a regular flying sit spin is the position the skater attains in the air, which is almost horizontal to the ice in the death drop. Brian Boitano was known for his death drop.
